Walking Tour of the Powdermills Ruins
New for 2020!
Would you like to tour the ruins of the old Gunpowder Factory, understand what happened in each building and hear some of its secrets? Ever wondered what that chimney was for? Joss is offering guided walks.
We will take you to the mill ruins, introduce you to each building, explain how gunpowder was made and share some stories of the people who lived and worked at the factory.
The tour will be followed by a take-away cream tea (tea or coffee, one scone served with clotted cream and jam) and you are invited to partake of your scrummy refreshments at the pottery's picnic tables.
Refreshments are followed by a browse of the Hill Pony Exhibition, which tells you the millenia-long history of the pony herds you see on the moor, their genetic importance and central role in the biodiversity of Dartmoor.
Government guidelines for social distancing will be adhered to at all times.
Total expected duration: 3 hours
Cost: £15 per person (includes parking, tour, refreshments, entrance to exhibition)
Parking: at the pottery
